************************************* *********** BREAKING NEWS ************ ************************************* It has been confirmed today that the IRC Mini Tonners have their own official trophy in the 2011 Round the Island Race! The event trophy has kindly been donated by Kemp Sails Limited. The trophy will be awarded at the Island Sailing Club, at their official prize giving ceremony. IMPORTANT - To compete for the KEMP SAILS MINI TONNER TROPHY you MUST do two things: 1. Race under IRC and include the word (Mini Tonner) after the design name/type of boat, on your race entry form. i.e. Limbo 6.6 (Mini Tonner). 2. Be listed as a Mini Tonner on our website Fleet list. (If you are not already on it - please fill in the simple form alongside the list pronto - and yes, it's FREE!) Interestingly, the Sonata fleet are doing exactly the same thing this year (not now just racing as One Designs) and as the IRC starts are grouped by rating, it is highly likely that we'll all be on the same start line. So we could have a really impressive gaggle of Mini Tonners all heading RTI this year! The entry list will be going live around about the 21st January 2011 and as usual the early entrants will find it less expensive than the later entries - so put the dates in your diary and make sure you don't miss this epic race of the year! See you all there! CLICK HERE - J.P. Morgan Asset Management - Round the Island Race - 25th June 2011

Ant - Lots of people use Beaulieu for the RTI. There is always a good few little boats launching for the race. Most seem to launch Friday night and stay on the marina and recover on the Sunday. The atmosphere isn't as lively as Cowes, but it's pretty good. If you want to stay on the marina you need to book early!

If we take part then we'll probably go from the Royal Southern on the Hamble as that is where we're based, but then we haven't got the boat yet so it's a bit previous!
I would suggest that Cowes does not really offer terribly good value that weekend.

Right Energia is booked into the Bucklers hard Marina in the Friday and Saturday nights. Nice and close to Cowes without the expense are there any more boats coming from afar?

Right chaps, I have had a couple of people asking where to stay for round the island this year who are looking at bringing their MT's. Whats peoples thoughts on all trying to stay in the same place and make a bit more of a social out of it?

I booked in at Bucklers Hard at the weekend. They still have loads of space but are expecting to get pretty busy.

Regret I won't be bringing Blue Movie down to play this year as I am doing a Fastnet campaign, but if anyone wants crew for the event I would really enjoy doing the RTI in a minitonner.
All the best, Piers

If you're doing the fastnet piers, does this mean you'll be missing the MT cup again?
