Rather than perpetually hijacking the "Boats Wanted" page, here is a place for overseas boats to communicate. "Overseas" in this context could be taken to mean outside Great Britain; if we at some time in the future have an MTC prize for Overseas comptitors, it should be open to all who have come from continental Europe, all Ireland, Channel islands, Isle of Man (but IOW excluded!), as well as further afield. News of rebuilds, photos, new contacts, events, anything that may be interesting to others.... Delighted to see that another Glass Onion has come to light in Dublin- does anyone know how many were built altogether? Richard in Germany (not the overseas fleet rep.)

Just a sort note to encourage "overseas" minis to register, or merely to leave a short message on this board, so that the future events could be slightly tailored to wishes of fellow owners. Ludo Isaert and I may sail from France to the MTC 2012 (of cours the MTC would then be secondary, the first to Cowes would be the victor even by only half a boat length), any other ideas that would bring more than 2 boats to a start line anywhere would be considered. For info, ISO828 is my old boat, 4,7m with trapeze and asymmetric, but I'm getting a bit old for that sort of thing and need cushions and a fridge. Hopefully I will not be working full-time for too much longer, and am open to ideas for increasing my enjoyment of my new boat, when I finally have more spare time. Baltic, Garda, Chiemsee are all on the radar for cruisng/racing in addition to UK south coast. Greetings to all from Germany, Richad Salter (english), wife Ute (german) and Secondanita (Italian)

After one brief meeting with Giovanni Ceccarelli on the day we collected Secondanita, we are now shown on Ceccarelli Yacht Design website: www.ceccarelliyachtdesign.com/?p=1000 . Another designer who can't get the IOR era out of his system (cf. Julian Everitt and others). She is still in England, first sail will be early next year, where and when is tbd but we will be there for MTC 2012 (August? when may a date be fixed? then we can fix the date of the feeder race from Gravelines) richard

fir Info, I have changed my identity from ISO828. It was a phase that I just about grown out of. Near 20 knots in a force 7 with 2 fat bastards on board is something I will never forget, the future is a little more sedate, as befits a grandfather with arthiitic knees and a broken coccyx 3 years ago. I am now at risk in other ways, as a back runner at a recent QT cup put it, of "Pimms poisoning" amongst other excuses for being deep down the tail of the field. greetings to all MT owners from a very cold place called Germany, down to -20 tonight! Richard

We're in England for 2weeks for boat maintenance and visiting familyvarious. Hard at work todayon the mast heelplate, she hada mild steel (not stainless) plate which was very rusty, and underneath that a mixture of original kevlar over plywood covered over by later glass layup which I assume was added when the rust bomb was installed. Thereare no limber holes between the two bulkheads which bracket the mast so all had got wet and 25 years later was interesting! There remains a prism shaped piece filled with encapsulated lead shot which should be gone tomorrow (also resting an a similar sheet? of plywood). It's going to take a bit longer, but we will definitely be on the line for MTC 2013. I would post some photos, but can't in this directory (why?). Usual emotional highs and lows that one expects at times like this. Grettings to all MT's around the world Richard

oh dear, it's amazing how little I have achieved in 2weeks on and off work. The mast plate is the biggest challenge, no paint yet and it appears that every fixing through the cabin/deck leaks. Visible in the last few days! I am working on getting a month free in the summer, may then be sailing briefly this year. The Yanmar can wait (but I have it already), and have removed a quantity of lead ballast to compensate. Fore/aft trim will be different, but all IOR boats had nose down trim to optimise LWL and therefore rating. Don't ask what a folding propellor costs...... inboard engine is considered necessary for cruising and feeder races from Gravelines to MTC. When I am the only one with a fridge at MTC then you will all understand. Warm white wine is not acceptable. my tame surveyor/brother is in uk later in may to see the work so far. back in germany now, homesick because my baby is in england richard (photos now uploaded 5th May) available on www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150655244964061.414136.614714060&type=3&l=cd1ef463b0also for non-Facebook users! Operation on my knee on 23rd May. When will my boat ever be ready?

take a look at this: www.boatshop24.com/de/motorboote/judel-vrolijk-minitonner--3803058She is a very beatiful boat (plywood/epoxy) for sale, nearly new sails outboard etc. Includes trailer and clearly immaculately restored. Stored indoors for many years. Any interest? I could be a contact point. Looks expensive but with everything and ready to go..... richard This boat now on Ebay (230818997226) at start price 8000 Euro....still looks beautiful out of the water!

Secondanita is now smooth as a baby's bottom under water line, ready for a little filling and painting. Mast should be painted tomorrow (weather permitting). Amazing the effect of a visit to Soton boat show on motivation! Funky Shit in france is now back in action, repainted almost exactly the same colour as SA. Watch out for "Squadra Azurra" next year.....

Probably should have posted this here board=events&action=post&thread=210& Yes congrads guys Toy Yot is based in Malahide as far as I know Just an update on minitonner.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=bitsforsale&action=post&thread=146"e=846&page=1I got in my first full season in Excalibur in 2012. My club ( Bray) has three series - Wednesday , Saturday and Long distance about ten/eight/six races Wed and Sat are round the cans usually about an hour long. AS Im new to racing I didnt concentrate on them. well I also go for holidays mid summer. So I got in two Wed and six Sat i think. the LD races are Bray to Howth or Malahide or to Wicklow in the other direction. Usually an overnight stay and race back the next day. 3-4 hrs on a good day. Bad tide and low wind had me doing 8 1/2 hrs this year to Malahide. Singlehanded. And I came second in that one! I won the return leg next day in 3 1/2 hrs - by 22 seconds! Also singlehanded. I came second in the Howth leg but there was a big Regatta on in Howth and the bigger boats could not get space so we stayed in Malahide. I had one crew and we lost a few mins at the start as well as the keel winch breaking. But we were mostly into the wind so didnt lose much on that. Next day we raced back from Malahide instead of howth. A run most of the 18 miles. I wanted to hit the line fast this time and yelled for the novice crew to hoist the main quick with 1 min and about half a cable to the line. He winched so hard the halliard came off and ran up the mast. I hadn't a hope of getting main and announced my loss to the Class on the radio. After a 15 minute rethink and considering I was not going to fly with the keel down on a run and no crane or laddr in Malahide oinb a Sunday I decided to go it anyway. Starting 20 mins behind we finished 40 mins behind after 3 1/2 hrs. All the other boats in my class except for an ETAP 22 are much longer than mine. Look at recent results here Class II www.braysailingclub.ie/Anyway the short version is Excalibur won the Long distance Cup. I did okay in the Saturday and overall series too after a season of learning the local conditions and how a Limbo 66 handles. Still need some experience and hoping to get some crew trained this year. I certainly need to get more races in so i can discard all the bad ones If I get her up to full speed I think Ill have to say goodbye to Cruisers 2 and move into Cruisers 1 for our club but then I am up against 30-33 footers and will get trounced in heavy weather. Otherwise this is my first year maybe racing outside the club and I might come up against Toy Yot in Dun Laoghaire Regatta if I can make it there. I think it is class 4 nationally? www.hyc.ie/openevents12/bmwCruiserNats/results/results.asp?pname=4_irc_os.htmlOtherwise Asterix is the sort of boat ill be tracking in DBSC 87.192.148.30/dbsc/Racing/BoatResults.asp?boat=Asterix&forClubs=Class 3 for DBSC (which is an amalgam of six Dun Laoghaire sailing clubs plus some marina boats) Although with the Amount of Races I do Im more suited to raced Jammie Dodger One might go through their list as there must be dozends of mini tonners in DL? And that isnt including Howth or Malahide. i note Howth have a Puppeteer listed in the MT Fleet. I reckon there are at least ten of them in Howth In any case great work Toy Yot winning Irish Cruiser nationals. I think Toy Yot is a boat which was recovered and raced by guys that work in the boatyards in Malahide. I dont know if they had much prior racing but it is apparent they are on top of their game. Applied for Echo Certificate Yesterday for Excalibur but dont know how much time Ill get to race in Dublin Bay additional to my club. Saw some 1.5W solar panels going for 12 Euros in Maplins and got them for trickle charging the battery. Noticed a fold up ladder in the catalogue and may return for that. When I step the mast on the Limbo I need a short ladder to get the lower/inner stays attached.

If your getting an echo cert you should try and do Dun Laoghaire in July and Class 3 eastern in August they are in RIYC this year theres no class 4 for dun laoghaire on the entry so be a mix of mini & quater tons. Iirc the band for class 3 is .822 up to .906. Be great to get as many minis on the start line for that. .
More then 10 pups in howth. Around 20 I think & when they sell they usually stay in howth but none of them race class 3 they just one design sail. The guy who owns the pup listed here has taken over a j24 to do the worlds this year. I know as well of an old very competitive mini that is sitting stripped apart in a garden for the last 4 or 5 years around Howth and could easily be put back together.
Fleet of e boats in clontarf aswell but dont think they really travel. theres no class 4 for dun laoghaire on the entry so be a mix of mini & quater tons.

I got the Echo cert - 835 which is 3 points above Toy Yot ?? so id have to beat them by 12 seconds an hour ~ a few boatlengths . I doubt i could manage that. THe August one seems out noew the hols are re arranged. That plus I have just fixed the seasons Cricket matches I thought as much from my last visit there but didnt want to say as it was just my impression. Guy from Bray was racing HYC and then National UYC last year did very well in europeans as highest J24 from Ireland and a top ten placing. He is about three times the age of the J24 average so ther is hope for us yet:) j24ireland.wordpress.com/2012/06/19/odriscoll-claims-northern-j24-title-with-nail-biting-finish/I'd be interested if I can get others interested. what is the owner looking for? theyre fairly quick boats . It would be great to get them oput on the bay. Ive never seen the glass onion either. There is a guy in my club with a Beneteau Fun 23 as well. Actually some of the fun is that as distinct from one design, Limbos, E boats Sonatas Puppeteers etc. all have their own handling advantages/disadvantages and as conditions change or points of sail. so for example I could be fighting to stay in touch upwind and lagging the field and then hit a downwind leg , wind up the keel and start planing past them although I suppose many lighter minis could do the same. One should get an overall impression of how each boat faces the changes. Well that or witness an epic fail as a crew have to deal with some element they dont really know about. Even the fact that Howth Malahide, DL and Bray all have different conditions. Just learning how about half a mile East of East Mountain behaves in different conditions to round it and how to approach and get through Howth Sound to Malahide on an outgoing tide into a Westerly Wind has been tricky for me.
