I looked at doing the IRC Solent Series, but it seems it has a lower rating limit which would rule me and a few other MT's out - anyone want a crew?

Just to throw another posible date in the MT diary, Sunderland Yacht Club have their annual regatta over the August bank holiday weekend (granted this wont appeal to all), but 3 days of racing, the third being a long distance round the cans style along the north east coast.
Plenty of accomodation and mooring available, free craning in and out. There are a load of Sonata's that are at the club along with a Stephen Jones Mini Tonner called Sweet Sixteen and I know of a glass onion near by to who may be keen to come play to.
They aim to have atleast 3 races a day on Olympic style course's, and then the third day a long distance race lasting a couple of hours before the prize giving. Fantastic sailing area with plenty to do in the near by area for those who come and dont sail!
Just a thought for any of the Northern boats and those who wish to travel!

Well I would imagine we have enough boats in the Solent region who could be interested to explore this idea....It's exactly what we need in the way of an event/series..... Can anybody throw any further light on the event and any limiting IRC restrictions? Who would be genuinely interested in participating?

I have just updated the MT Website's calendar page for 2011 ;D
- Please have a look and get the dates booked in your diaries (if anything is missing or incorrect, please send me a PM)
As a class we have also been invited to attend:
Vice Admiral's Cup 2011 - Friday 13th May to Sunday 15th May
The plan is to have three windward/leeward or Solent course races on the first two days and 2 races on the final day with no warning signal after 1430 on the Sunday, except after a general recall. The entry fee for your class is £120 and includes 4 tickets for the 2 course supper on the Friday night along with 3 days of racing."
and
Plymouth Race week 7th - 10th July, 2011 (details elsewhere in this thread).
However, the Event organizer's require at least 6 boats to meet the minimum class size.
So, as we cannot yet guarantee the number of entries from the class, for 2011 I am not planning to accept these invitations.
However, If you would like the class to be a part of either of these events in future years, please send me a PM.
Thanks..Matt

West Hoe sailing club offers level rating class for foxterriers/charismas in Plymouth Sound on a Thursday evening through the summer. Also be aware that there are 2 regattas planed in plymouth for the summer. The PPSA run Plymouth Week and the RWYC organised Plymouth Race week. May need some co ordination to get fleets together.

Hi
I have a Sonata (High Note) on the Hamble river. I'm am extremely keen to race against other minitonners in the solent this year.
The IRC solent series is a good series. Unfortunately I was the only mini ton entrant in 2010 by a long way, so I gave up after two weekends. I do beleive it represents the best opportunity for developing a mini ton class. With enough boats I'm sure the class would allow relaxation of the lower rating limit.
Please let me know if anyone else is planning to take part this year. If we could get another 2 boats I would gladly enter again.
Regards
Olly

Olly, Ken and I met for a beer on Saturday afternoon to put our heads together for the season ahead. Our primary conclusion was that we'd talk to the IRC Solent Series about whether they will drop the lower limit for Roughian (not that we yet know what her IRC is) and on the basis that they have made positive noises about that, the three of us would enter in the hope that our three being there would encourage other Mini-tonners to come along too. The benefit of the series is that it once a month so easier to get crew, and it moves around the Solent so everyone gets a local event and we all make an effort to get to everyone elses local event too. The more of us there, the better it will be. The first event is the Clarkson Cup hosted by the Royal Southampton in May. www.solentirc.org.uk/ Our second conclusion was that come the winter series, we should look at moving the Hamble MT focus from the Royal Southampton Series to the Hamble River SC series as this would be more accessable to the boats coming from Portsmouth and Cowes.
