Good Point Ant, I was just thinking that I should put together a provisional calendar of events for 2011. We can probably only expect to manage one completely 'stand alone' event a year (The Solent Trophy & Mini Ton Cup), so I think we need to tag onto other events as a class start to make the calendar work - just like at the IRC Easterns last year. Getting some regional events is also going to be important for the class - to spread the fun around abit! So, I need input from you guys as to what we can join in with. I have had a provisional invite to the Class for Plymouth Race Week 2011, which will be held between 7th - 10th July, 2011. This sounds like it could be a really good event. www.plymouthraceweek.orgIf any of you have any ideas of other events that we can piggyback onto, then please drop me a line ASAP and I'll put the provisional calendar together. (Please bear in mind however, that we will need to ensure some boats turn up do the events - if we campaign to the organisers to be involved we must then show up!) In Plymouth there was a fleet of Charisma Minitionners for instance - so if those guys awakened and a few others joined in it stands a chance of becoming a great event. In Poole there are a bunch of boats who could get together - so there's another possible venue.... I also have to think that Ireland and Scotland also must have potential to run an event each..... I'd think we'd also be happy to work with the Sonata's or E-boats to combine existing class events into Mini Tonner events.... I'm standing by to hear from you guys! Matt

Did you say Charismas in PLymouth, well I have one, and there are a few others about ( I believe Black socks is still for sale), also Fox Terriers, E-boats, and the ever popular Sonatas. A Mischief has also been sighted this season.
I've looked at the website, It would be good if this gets off the ground, after all Plymouth Sound is a great sheltered patch of water.

There is a growing Sonata fleet at Brixham YC so both Torbay Week and Dartmouth Regatta (which run consecutively in August with a passage race inbetween) would be a good shout.
Both are good fun regattas with a strong PY tradition so they're not all about big gilet wearing IRC sailors.

Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club in Dublin have a large and active E-boat fleet.
After competing at Cork Week 2010 last year we were talking to the locals who suggested that on the years when there is no Cork Week, we would have just as good a time at Dun Laogaire Week.
Perhaps it might be worth talking to the people at Clontarf?
There are plenty of Snottas in Ireland too.

The QTs have several entrants in the IRC Solent Series giving them six or seven varied events per year. Its not something I'd want to do as the only mini-tonner (and I qualify this by saying I have not bought one yet) but if there were a decent number of MTs in there then I for one would find it a very attractive proposition.
Anyone else?

Sonatas have a long history in the JOG Inshore Series. Again, I would not fancy it on my own but for the adventurous among you, the inshore series might be worth a bash. Last year, all starting from Cowes, there was a Solent Race, a Nab Tower Race, a Yarmouth and back double weekend, a race to Weymouth and a Poole and back double. Now for me, Weymouth is a long way, as is Poole if it's via St Katherines Point, but I know there are some far more adventurous MT sailors out there.

Anyone else? This is the spirit George! Well said.... The most likely way to get ourselves (and the smaller boat fleets) racing all up together, is by joining in the exisiting IRC racing series events just as you say. This way if you get a crew and boat all together you are pretty well ensured a well organised event and a fair race. If we can gather enough boats for an event then it is often possible for us to have/arrange our own class trophy included....The IRC Easterns were a perfect example of this happening last year. What it took was Scott and Piers (the East Coast Class Reps) to get the locally based half a dozen or so boats to agree to participate and then have a few words with the right people - who as it turns out were only too pleased to see the Mini Tonners partcipate. Martin is now trying to rouse the same interest from boats in the South West and if we're not careful we'll have a SW Area Championship event organised as well! What we have to do (and the sooner the better) is decide which event/s the boats want to do and let me and or Martin (S.W.) know....this goes for the S.West or anywhere else.... A 'meeting' in the pub did the trick last time - Who'd have thought eh???
