Hi. Does anyone have an idea whether an Achilles 7m might rate as a mini tonner. I don't think it was built to rate as one originally, but it's dimensions seem about right

I must admit when I first looked for the Achilles 7m I followed the internet trail and ended up looking at details of the Achilles 24 (which at this time we don't consider fits the ethos of the Class). However, this was misleading and I have subsequently been directed to a picture and some very basic details of the Achilles 7m design: www.achillesyachts.co.uk/page49.htmlIn retrospect, I now have to say (firstly apologies!) and secondly that this boat looks much more like a Mini Tonner and certainly seems to fit the bill from a 'Spirit of Mini Ton' perspective. I haven't as yet been able to track down an IOR rating for the boat - but that aside, I do think the Achilles 7m should be included.....

The one on achillesyachts is mine, she's called Chiron and lives with me here in the British Virgin Islands. The basic details on that site are from my measurements and small amount of info, there really isn't anything else to find, believe me I've tried. There was an advertisement in Yachting Monthly back in 1982 that I used to have a copy of, but alas it didn't make the journey out here. To my knowledge they were never initially designed for IOR, being narrow gutted and having a spinnaker pole substantially bigger than J. I believe Chris Butler (designer and owner of Butler Mouldings that built the Achilles range) had intended them to be a one design class, but Butler Mouldings ceased trading shortly after and only a handful were built. Thanks for including her in the spirit of the minitonner though, nice to have somewhere to belong, even if she's the only minitonner in the islands!
