We have entered this race, which takes place between Friday 23rd to Monday 26th July. We will be sailing there from Brighton starting on the 16th (weather permitting), and hopefully making a bit of a holiday of the journey both ways. Any of you other minis up for it? Also, does anyone have any tips for a fast route around the course?

I've been thinking about this one for some time - no crew is a bit of an issue..
I think I might just sail down at the same time anyway. Do they have a singlehanded class, or are there any Minitonners in Penzance/Plymouth who fancy crewing?
Which stopovers are you thinking of on the way down?

there is a single handed class I think - check their details on the Penzance Sailing Club web site. Our passage plan is roughly Brighton - Dartmouth leaving this friday hope to be in by Sunday lunch Dartmouth - Plymouth? leaving Monday 19th Plymouth - Falmouth falmouth - Penzance ... planning to be there by Wednesday 21st
race leaves Penzance at 8pm on the 23rd
drop them a line about crew also - they seem very friendly
cheers

well the first leg is complete. Brighton - Brixham, didn't have time before my train to push on the next few miles to Dartmouth. All in all it took 45hrs - trust us to set off in to the teeth of the first proper westerly since I can remember. Guy + others now have the job of getting to Penzance. The plan is to set for Falmouth this afternoon, after having fixed all the things that broke (battery, torch x2, leaking keelbox lid - hence drowned battery) Looks like they may have more favourable winds but it'll be raining - ahh, my heart bleeds. I just have to go to work!##
cheers all

Well Done! - 45hrs in a Mini Tonner is no mean feat! Hope the rest of the trip goes according to plan and that the event is as fun as it looks! Stay safe and enjoy it fellas! Matt

That's Great News!
Have a great race and don't forget to tell us how it went - if you have any pictures I'll find somewhere to put them up here and share them!
Watch out for Ken in 'Solo' - she's a Dark Blue hull with White stripes and v.tall helmsman!
Good Luck and Fair Winds. Fellas!

Thought I should report myself as not missing in action...
No crew forthcoming and really didn't fancy a night sailk over to the Scillies after a long trip down, but came down anyway. Now in QAB in Plymouth - after these Westerlies all the way down. Upwind experience is good, isn't it?
When you guys come back East, let me know where you are heading?
A pint of two of Doom Bar anyone?
I'm off to Fowey tomorrow, apparently its amazing.

Any more news Fellas? How did it all go? Would you recommend it to others - or are you now completely saturated! Matt

We had a great time doing the PASAB and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The Penzance Sailing Club are a really friendly bunch and they put on a great event, with plenty of merriment as well as competitive racing! We were made to feel very welcome.
The race itself was fantastic and the weather was kind to us with light winds for the legs over to and around the islands. The final leg back to Penzance was cancelled due to fog, but we were lucky to have a sunny day for the round the islands leg, and were all pretty awe struck by the stark beauty of the Scillies. We came I think 21st out of 27 overall, so plenty of room for improvement next time!
Doing over 600 miles and 16 days on a minitoner has probably scratched that long distance itch for now, but I would definitely not rule out doing a similar trip again in the future! Anyone up for next year?

That looks great guys - what a cool thing to have done! Are you able to get over to Cowes, so you can tell us all about the trip over a beer or three??? Matt
