Matthew, where are you based and are you willing to travel to attend races?
Assuming you want to race under IRC you will need to look at what SSS Base Value (stabilty rating) you have been given on your certificate, as this will dictate whether you can enter offshore races. For most Offshore / long coastal races the organising authority will require entering yachts to have a minimum SSS number to ensure that the vessel is fit for the course. For example EAORA (East Anglian Offshore Racing Assoc) require a minimum SSS of 15, but Blue Movie's is 14, so I can't enter their events.......something to do with health & safety!

Ant, 10 is probably the standard SSS number for an E-Boat. The rating office has standard data for most production cruiser / racers, they will then see if you have done any changes to the boat to affect the standard design, i.e more ballast equals greater stability, tall rig equals less stability etc. You can always call the rating office an have a chat with them about it, they are more than happy to talk about such queries. Matt, you should consider the Round the Island race....50 miles seems a far way in a mini tonner to me. Piers

Matt Have you seen the 'Penzance Around Scilly and Back' race? www.pzsc.org.uk/pasab/index.htmI know it's along way from Brighton ( ) but if you trailed the boat down there, I guess it's more possible... and this race has been done by a Limbo several times before.... "After a long weekend of sailing, which saw competitors clock up at least 24 hours racing, Cedric Wynter’s ‘Out on a Limbo’ from Penzance Sailing Club came out on top with consistent results all weekend; only 10 minutes ahead of Norman Curnow’s ‘Jazz’ from Saltash; closely followed by John Whitehead’s Artemis from Plymouth." .....I'm sure it would be a memorable event! cheers..Matt

The cheque is on its way to Penzance Sailing Club. The boat will be following shortly. Brighton-Dartmouth-Falmouth-Penzance. Anyone else fancy Penzance to Scilly and back?
