Mini Ton Cup Regatta 2015 - Your feedback is welcome.
The Mini Ton Cup Regatta (22nd Aug) was sadly cancelled due to only 2 boats entering, and I'm now writing to all know Mini Tonner contacts to see if we can work out why entries were so low.
I'd be very grateful if you could let me know your reasons for not entering?
Was it:
• Too close to Cowes Week (just 1 week later)
• Due to other family commitments
• Couldn't get crew
• Entry fees too expensive
• I didn't know it was taking place
• Berthing fees too expensive
• August is a busy month and can't get away
• The regatta would better suit my schedule in the month of ...
• I no longer own a Mini Tonner
• I'd prefer the event to be 2 days
• Other reasons...
Whatever your thoughts we'd really like to know. We're putting together the 2016 Fixtures list and need to learn from the experiences of this year.

Sorry but Secondanita is now in her fourth year of restoration and still not yet useable. The format is good for UK based boats, for those who may come from further afield (Dublin area has potential participants, I from Germany, one boat enthusiastically campaigned near Dunkirk), an additional race or 2 on a second day (maybe not counting for the cup) would maybe attract people..... I should be meeting on Wednesday with the french guy Ludo Isaert as I take my boat at last to Germany, our vision is for a "race" to the MTC from France only for bragging rights and determining who buys the beer! Nobody wants to see the event die. I cannot step forward to take over as class coordinator, as living overseas would not be practical for organising an event in Cowes. Date is irrelevant as I am retired :-) Richard Salter

I have thought about taking my boat over the mini ton cup but to travel from Dublin for a one day event isnt worthwhile logistically or financially and even at 2 days may not be worth it however if the event was scheduled close to other events (round the island for example) where possible it would be worth travelling and leaving the boat for a week or 2 between events, this year aswell was a calendar clash for us with the 1/2 ton cup also in August. Unfortunately the chances of getting a mini ton event in Dublin going seem to be nil so would be great to be able to go over and race against other MTs in England. Another idea maybe running a small boat regatta including non mini tonners below a certain IRC rating and including the mini ton cup within that event. Its just an internet observation from far away but there seems to be very little racing offered for anything smaller then a 1/4 tonner around the south coast of england

Since buying my boat two children have appeared, and that means I'm not sailing at the moment. The boat is for sale but no takers at the moment.

We have a few lift-keel Sonatas and a Limbo at Christchurch and my partner and I have an Extrovert 22. We do some club racing and a couple of boats could probably come to a Solent event (weather permitting). Is there much work involved in getting measurement forms completed etc? We really only race / cruise and wouldn't be taking it too seriously. As a newbie to the fleet it seems a bit daunting to take the boat away and race her! Sorry - I sound wimpy but maybe there are other owners out here who maybe don't really know what's involved in the MTC. Shame for the two boats who entered, though. Hope things pick up in future. A short clip of us sailing back to Christchurch from Yarmouth last weekend - Extrovert with spinnaker
