I don’t want to step on anyone toes (being the new boy on here) but I was wondering what can we do as a group to generate a more active forum, racing series and social programme?
I have been reviewing several forums (not just boats) for some time and have to admit this isn’t the most active!
I know we have boats located all over the country (and Europe) and it would be great if we could organise some form of series. I was previously looking at the 1/4 tonners and they seem to be very active with their racing programme. i agree with a previous thread that we don’t want to get into cheque book racing but there must be away of being a little more active?
Being located on the East Coast we have some great Regatta's and I’m sure if we could get the numbers up of Mini Tonner entries we could have our own class.
Let me know your thoughts.

I agree, im trying to get hold of a few sonatas to start racing with us at hamble river on wednesdays, there may be some clubs in the solent area, that would hold events for us asuming we could get 10 entrys, we dont mind traveling accross the solent to race.

A few thoughts from an atypical (I think) mini owner. My position is clear - I live in Germany, and although I am a regular visitor to UK to see that my family (all 4 generations) is managing with everything, I can never make a commitment to support anything other than the MTC, and that has not happened this year due to a conspiracy and not having the boat ready. Conspiracy from my son to run the Berlin marathon the day after MTC. Not practical. However I would be happy to do what I can to encourage others from outside UK to come to the party. The feeder "race" from Dunkirk with Ludo Isaert will happen in 2013, and I would support an award for a) best performance from a non-UK based boat and b) for the boat that has traveled furthest to get to MTC. My use of the word "atypical" reflects the fact that a major part of the fleet are what I would call "younger" when compared with the QT's who appear to be in the more "mature" direction. This makes a difference to disposable income and therefore the ability to support a long series of events through the summer. Look at the QT's - a swedish boat Alice is supporting, one or maybe more from Holland (The Itch), last summer a NZ boat Black Fun did several events, plus various Irish boats, each of these is spending a lot on regular participation in class events. If we want to get boats from France, Germany, Ireland, and other european lands, then perhaps a one-day event is not sufficient to justify the travel costs/time. I would encourage building the MTC into the Big One rather than trying to build a less well supported circuit. I am happy to share news of the painfully slow rebuild process, and would be happy to read of progress from others who are going through the same pain. Is Facebook a viable medium for this? The connection with Southwest Minitonners on FB is not the active forum I had expected. FB has also not done much for the QT's- As you have all by now realised, I am not one of the younger owners, but my disposable income is not so great...... greetings to Minitonners around the world, richard and I-10440

I fully agree with the above. Minitonners are cheap and cheerful, and moving your boat around the country too often is neither cheap or cheerful. Having one big event a year is a great idea but........ Matt has put in a huge amount of effort to get the class up and running and organising the MTC as it is now. Other people will have to get involved and help out if it is going to evolve into something bigger.

It seems to me that there is already plenty to join in with, the issue I and I am sure others face is finding the time and money to get to it all. We will be at the MTC this year possibly with another limbo, but that is about all we are likley to achive this year.
I was wondering if, for some other people, this was going to be thier only outing, maybe we could capitalise on this. i would be prepared to organise an open meeting either the weekend before or after the MTC at Southsea. I guess we are not a bad metting place for both east and west. i sure we could "sponsor" the open meeting and provide super cheap mooring/ lifting launching/trailer storage for those folk that require it. if anyone did fancy the idea, we could perhaps incorperate some sort of passage/persuit race between Cowes and Portsmouth, to make the commute a little less dull.
But i guess most folk are in the same position as me and will struggle to get to the few events that they earmarked at the start of the season.
Still the offers there.
I look forward to meeting you all in cowes.
