Hello, newbie but I'll start straight off.
I've just bought a 79 Ron holland designed 23ft'er, it is a glass hull with wooden decks and a VMI rig, is this likely to be Honeymoon? I'm half owner with Mark Langdon who used to own The Sunshine Boys, he is extremely shocked with how close in design they are. Is this likely to be Honeymoon?
Either way, we think she is going to be fast!

Certainly a slippy looking hull shape. Much work required to sort out for the season?

Not really, luckily. It has been left outside for nearly a year so there is a lot of water sat in the bilges and it has made everything damp. The wood still seems solid and it just needs drying out and a few pieces cutting/moving.The trailer is alittle ropey and the cradle could do with a good clean but they will be summer jobs for after sailing her. The cabin roof was replaced at some point and they have done a decent job of it so it's just a sand and paint along with the rest of the decks. I'm just going to clean her up, put her in to see how she goes, get the rig tuned up so I know the settings and then give her a complete overhaul next winter. A lot of the deck hardware was removed so I'll be trying to figure out where that all went! On the plus side, she has been out of the water for nearly 5 years so the hll is nice and dry and definitly no osmosis! It has a decent set of sails including two spinnakers which were bought about a year before taking her out of the water. She has a cradle which is a definite bonus and she has a Variable Moment rig, with a diamond sectioned spreader top section which looks very flexible. I'll be keeping her around the falmouth area and hope to start getting her racing this year. She is the first racing yacht I have owned, I also am 1/2 owner of a seawolf 26, bought proincipally becasue she looks like a 1/4 tonner so yeah, could say I like my IOR boats I'll keep a steady flow of pictures going so you can see how she takes shape!

A few interesting observations today, the boat is now with me and we've started the clearout process.
The mast is interesting, it has definitly been sheaved after a snap, the more interesting thing is that the guy I have bought "honeymoon" with is pretty sure it is his old mast from the sunshine boys, which he then sold after getting a replacemnt from the insurance company. The big tell tale is the remmenants of red paint left on the mast. Sunshine's rig was painted red!
There is an IOR sticker in the boat for the weight point which is a nice indication that this is aboat that has competed in an IOR race.
Now here is the thing, it was advertised as a 1979 ron holland design, which would make it honeymoon. However, it is soo similar to sunshine boys, it's uncanny, the boats current name is also sunshine, sooo.... What do people think, could this be sunshine number two or honeymoon?

Out of interest how do you know it's #2? From what I've been able to find the boatshow boat was cold molded, There were three options, FRP hull and deck FRP hull with ply deck (like yours) Cold molded hull with ply deck (most similar to TSB)
Show boat, yours and TSB means there were at least 3 sunshine 22's built, And two will be returning to the water at some point!

I know someone who knows of the history about the Sunshine 22, The first boat, the cold moulded ply was owned by my friend for 20 years, you obviously know The Sunshine Boys, that was no.1. The hull mould was made off TSB, with wooden decks, this was no.2 No.3 had it's plug made from the decks of no.2 and the hull of TSB. Do you know of another Sunshine that has wooden decks? I would like to know as much history as possible about these as I intend on keeping it. Where are the other Sunshines? You can add mine to the list now

I used to sail on the original Sunshine boys with Mark Langdon when she was in Plymouth and got partially involved when she went thru refit and was sheaved 5 years later.
It will be good to see the plastic version out racing
If anyone is interested there is a South West Mini Tonners face book page. Maybe we could use this to get some racing going.
