Hi all. I'm planning to take Dream On to the mini ton cup this year but can't find any details on how to enter, or when I have to enter by. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Good Question! Actually we (The ISC) are just producing the Notice of Race at the moment - so, the answer is watch this space! It shouldn't be too long now! Matt

Hi All, The moment you have all been waiting for! THE MINI TON CUP 2011 - ENTRIES ARE NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN! Links to the NOR & and Entry docs are on our website News/Events page - or you can get to them via the ISC site: www.islandsc.org.uk/racingdocuments.aspxEssentially, as 2010 was a 100% success (apart from the weather! ;D) we have left the weekend formula pretty much the same. The entries will be handled by the ISC directly - So please don't send your money to me We have tried to keep the Entry Fee as low as possible again...so it's absolutely as affordable as it's possible to make it and yet still run a 'proper' event. Racing is under IRC for the Mini Ton Cup or under ISCRS (just like the Round The Island) for the Solent Trophy. The racing is on Saturday with an evening BBQ, prize giving and beers again at the ISC. Most/all boats will berth in Cowes Yacht Haven on the Saturday night- but bookings should be made individually/directly with the marina. If anybody has any questions please ask.... I look forward to seeing you all there! Matt

Will be sorting Dream On's entry out soon. £45 entry seems reasonable, but £14.50 per head for the bbq seems a bit steep. I expect an entire cow for that, or a sizable part of a gold plated one!

I expect an entire cow for that, or a sizable part of a gold plated one! ;D....I take your point Matt, though I would say that the ISC is providing us with our own room with a bar, staff etc at no 'extra' cost, so the meal price effectively covers that aswell. That said - the BBQ last year was actually really good and there was no shortage of food - so I don't think you'll be dissapointed with your peice of cow! It's been a struggle to keep the costs for the event down, as costs (especially fuel for the committee boat etc) have all risen dramatically over the last 12 months). However, as long as we can get at least 15 boats along we'll have an affordable event that covers its costs and is a superbly run event for us to really enjoy. Matt

Sad to say Smokey wont be there due to other commitments and time constraints. Would have loved to be there but its a bit much to get there for one day (3 Races).

The Half Ton guys are also in Cowes for their regatta starting the day after us on Sunday, so we are seeing if we can have some beers on the pontoon with another resurrected IOR class - anyone here sail on a Half Tonner in the day (or now even)?

I have some lovely memories of my time on K5494 (Laurie Davidson) Half-tonner Lepus Lazuli (aka Quokka aka Half-Cut) around Torbay/Dartmouth in the 80's. Winch grinder and ballast aft to keep the IOR extended transom in the water. Crazy boats, great memories.

Ant you make a fair point... The idea behind the race format was to have a longer 'Round the Cans' race to emulate the old Mini Tonner distance race ...(not really ever supposed to be Offshore ) After that to have Windward / Leewards to keep the racing and fleet close. I think your concern is that the day's racing could end prematurely - and has hopefully now been addressed with the ISC. An ammendment to the NOR will be issued to suggest between 3-5 races to be held - including the first longer Round the Cans race. I think this way we'll get enough sailing!

Whats people thoughts on a 3 or 4 day event for the Mini Ton Cup and run a similar format to the Quarter Tonners / Half Tonners and a little bit of the old style MTC? Obviously it wouldnt be this year but in years to come.
This would also give the foreign Mini's a good reason to come and play with the UK bunch

Paul, I would go for that with enough notice but it would make getting crew harder.
How about running it within an established four day event such as Dartmouth Regatta?

Hmm I think a weekend event would be the way forward. Would be easy to get crew but woul also satisfy third after a longer event and it would be possible to do it whilst not taking as much time off work. I agree that we need an excuse for the foreign boats to come over. Whats the entry fee like on the longer events ? I am quite keen on a full day on the water nomater what the weather.

From my point of view as a potential overseas entrant, the most important thing is that the date is fixed as early as possible. For 2012, I may sail over from France, so Dartmouth (for example) would be less than perfect in this context. My participation this year is very much in the nalance, whether Secondanita is ready to sail, and whether my nice boss will give me a few days off around August 20th. Who knows where I can find a crane that is cheaper than standard Solent price? Cheapest I have so far found is Buckler's Hard. Richard
