Dear Sirs,
I'm Fabio Peluffo , an E-Boat owner from Italy. I'm doing a very hard refitting to my boat , and a saw in some pictures about UK E-Boats a neoprene gasket betwin keel and keel pan. Can you explane me why they do this modification and if is enought to put this gasket or if you need to put something also in the hull ? Thanks you Best Regards and fair winds Fabio

It doesn't seal the gap between the keel and the hull, nor does it make it water tight, but it does greatly decrease the flow of water into/out of the keel box meaning that the laminer flow of water is less disturbed and thus reduces drag. Just as importantly, it reduces wear around the hole.

Thank you George, But , do you think that is better to put this neoprene gasket ? Because from my keel and keel box seem that there is not enought space to put this membrane. If you want , I can send you a picture about keel box. Is important also for safety this modification? Thanks again Fair winds Fabio

Roughian had the gasket when we bought her. I prefer having it there but would I have had it put in iof it wasn't? In truth, I probably would not have bothered.
I don't think it adds much to safety to be fair. I suppose it means if you have a knock down, water would come in more slowly, but as I say above, the real beenfit is in terms of reducing friction.
