Hello everyone, I am a 2nd year Boat Design and Production FdSc student at Falmouth Marine School, Cornwall. For my second year project, I am designing a lifting bulb keel for a limbo 6.6 to replace the iron drop keel.
I am not sure on how much depth I will be able to go into given the amount of time I have to do it in however my plan is to use CAD and Computer aided engineering to analyse performance and structural loading of a boat fitted with an iron keel, then design the new keel to improve performance and reduce leeway angle.
If I have time after this the lifting mechanism and keel box will be designed. And after this a laminate schedule, I doubt I will get this far however.
I would really like to hear from anyone with any input, ideas, boats or keels I can measure or anything else useful
Thanks
Chris

Chris not sure exactly what help I can offer but I would be interested to hear how you get on! Do you have access to a Limbo 6.6? Surely one of you guys who keep your boats dry at Bucklers can offer him a chance to have a look at one below the water-line? there is also at least one example of a 6.6 with a fixed keel out there but I can't for the life of me remember what its called. found a sketch diag of the swing keel arrangement on a Limbo - attached. cheers matthew Attachments:
