How fantastic to have heard from Olly with his Sonata 'High Note' and I'm aware that 'Sunshine Boys' is in restoration locally, but there remain a number of MTs on the Hamble that it would be great to hear from, some Sontas such as 'Fat Hen' that I don't think is on the MT list as yet, and then there are Limbo's like Eau de Vie and Daffy Duck as well as New Leaf II.
Would other Hamble based mini-tonner owners be interested in getting together and then promoting the Class Association locally, perhaps with events both on and off the water?
I am sure there are at least half a dozen MTs out there as yet are not aware of the MT Class Association, particularly at Hamble River Sailing Club.

Well that's 3 of us!
I to will be taking part in the RTI, Cowes and the miniton cup.
I'd love to coordinate some good racing for April, May and July and am willing to be flexible.
Other options are the IRC solent series and the royal southern regattas. Or we could try and convince the HRSC XODs to let us use their committee boat on a Saturday, they used to run a keelboat race every Sat till demand dropped off.
I'll forward this post to fat hen and Tosca (a sonata that is in the process of moving to hamble) and see what happens.
Shamm, George which yacht clubs are you with? I'm a member of the HRSC and the R Southern.
With regard to promoting the class locally, shall we start with a pint in Hamble in the next month? I'll be there for a week to sort High Note out on the 26th march.

I was collared by Tony Lovell and Shearer Robertson in the Royal Southern yesterday afternoon as they are extremely keen for the Mini-tonners to take part in their monthly regattas, particularly in May & June.
Sadly I can not do the May one as it clashes with the Manches Cup (which my firm sponsor) but I shall endeavor to make sure Roughian is there anyway.
If we have enough boats out regularly then I am sure HRSC would be happy to add a fleet to their starts on a weekly basis too.

We're hoping to have Roughian alongside on Saturday for some much needed servicing of fittings, if any Hamble Mini-tonners are around (perhaps practicing for Sunday's Spring Series?) do please keep and eye out and give us a wave or come and say hello.

Presto is a modified limbo 6.6 based in southampton water. We are a group of students who have just bought her and are looking to race against other minitonners. Is anyone planning on doing the SWSA series?

Toby,
We looked at the SWSA series for our previous boats but there didn't seem to be enough entries.
On yesterdays evidence, a well sailed Limbo 6.6 would have plenty of exciting and close racing in the RSYC Spring Series.

I'll be in hamble on Saturday for a week sorting high note out. Does anyone fancy meeting up for a pint to talk about what racing to do this year?
Toby, I saw last years entry list and it didn't look too promising. Both George and I are very keen to do some racing. So long as we all agree to do the same races we'd have a reasonable class no matter what regatta/series it was. How much racing are you looking to do?
I live in brum so I can only make one or two events per month. But I haven't committed to much yet as I'm keen to co-ordinate with other small boats before I do.

Olly,
We've got an appointment at Hamble Point at 1400 which should take an hour. Will probably wonder up to the Southern after that. See you there?

Eskymo is down from the frozen north and had her first sail at the weekend in the Royal Southampton 2 handed series. It was a great introduction to the season - the race was only 3 hours long and not too serious although with 30 boats in our class and a biased line the start was a bit busy. Winds were 12-20 knots. Ex-Tip was also out looking very smart . I think that these races would be ideal for mini's - by definition you dont need to find a large crew and are of a passage race flavour so there are not too many corners to worry about. The next racing is on the Saturday 16th when there is a 2 race regatta. See you there?

Hi Dave
George, KenDocherty and I have signed a contract in blood to turn out to all of the IRC solent series this year (See 2011 thread).
I'm afraid I won't have the time to sign up to the double handed series.
You are very right about the advantage of not having to find crew. Its tempting....

I'll be on Roughian on the Hamble for most of the day tomorrow, getting her ready for the MTC. If anyone is about, please do come and say hi.
