Right, Im trying to hunt down any mini tonners abroad especially in Italy and Norway as I believe thats were the majority ended up and there were some big fleets over there.
I have several people looking into getting a mini tonner and I was wondering if anyone knew of any abroad that needed a good home, regardless of if they need work or are already race preped.
These are great little boats and everyone should have one, so please if any oversea's members know of any please let us know.

More than that, if we could form links with class associations abroad it would open up European competition.
There are many Eboats and Sonatas in Ireland; could they be persuaded to come together for a mini ton class at Cork Week? I would certainly want to tow over for that.

tow... surly a rally from pembroke and sail over as a group would be far cheaper and way more fun.

I have located a mouth-watering Cecarelli minitonner "Miniwing" lying around unused in Italy. Kevlar hull (1985) and the first production boat designed by Giovanni Ceccarelli... Watch this space for news, after I find time to go down and see her. If it doesn't work out, there are several others dotted around Italy of the same vintage. I was originally after a quarter, but towing regulations here in Germany are restricting, and a QT would have meant a new car to tow her because of the weight., =>miniton option. Coming over to UK to play with the fleet is a possible option, but not in time for June 2011. Greetings to all from mid-germany Richard Salter

I have now agreed a deal on this boat, and expect to collect her in a couple of weeks. I have August 20th at ISC in my sights, but can't guarantee it until I've done a few jobs which are needed. I am looking forward to joining in the fun. I am the third owner from new! Richard Salter and "Secondanita" I-10440, frustrated in Germany because my new toy is too far away, still in Ravenna. Collected Secondanita from Ravenna over the weekend. She has not been sailed for some time and needs a bit of work but nothing too serious at first sight. Giovanni Ceccarelli came down to the yacht harbour as we were loading her up, and amongst other things asked if I would convert her to swept spreader rig, and on hearing that I had no intention to do so, told me that she would be slower in that form. I have seen several Minis for sale in Italy whilst looking for the right boat forme - a few Rivetto's, Sciomachen, and another later Ceccarelli boat called PIO DEGLI ULIVI built in late 80's for Vincenzo Onorato of Mascalzone Latino fame. If anyone isn't frightened of driving down there, there are lots of good boats to be had. Is there a demand for an overseas (i.e. not UK) page on this Forum?

I am still working on getting Secondanita to the MTC in August, but it is looking a bit tense whether we will be ready to sail properly by then. Antifouling has ruled my life for the last few weeks, and that’s just taking the old s**t off. The taste gets everywhere. afterwards she will have many coats of international epoxy, and may look better under the water than above. I have collected as much of the old paint as practical in a plastic sack, weighs 2kg already! Also I am going slower now as I am getting near to substrate and don’t want to damage my Kevlar. The mast has several blisters under the paint which need to be done, it isn’t anodised and is an extrusion normally used for Star masts. Everything else can wait – a few days sailing this year will be all I get time for to show me what is to be done before next year, when the previous owner Antonio Vettese, who will be in UK for the Olympics (sport journalist) has agreed to sail in MTC with us. By then we should be properly organised with fridge and other essentials. I started looking at my sail collection (18!) yesterday – an amazing mixture, but some lovely looking pieces of art, including a Banks main from about 1990 which I expect will be the main motive power – I sailed on a halftonner late 80s with a banks main and it was unbelievably good – we will see. The chances of getting out for more than a day or two before MTC are minimal, just enough to work out which sails to use and to replace the strings that are breaking – she sat in the sun in Italy for years without moving, so it is to be expected that something is going to fall apart. Looking forward to it, and will do my best to be there. richard Attachments:
