Hi Guys, Can anyone with a Foxterrier give me some advice on how the keel locks down and the rudder is secured within the S/S rudder frame. I have found two s/steel pins about 12" long 3/8" diameter with a small bolt and nut at right angles through the pin at one end, any clues to their purpose.
Having purchased the boat (Foxy Lady) recently from the late owner's widow who is unable to advise me on aspects of the boat, I am looking for as much advice on setting the boat up for the coming season. She is currently on my front lawn undergoing a few maintenance jobs.

Hi Staticpete
Sorry I missed your post over Christmas. First of all, well done on purchasing a Fox Terrier!
Regards the rudder, unfortunately mine is just straight forward pintles that I hang each time I head out and then take off and put down below when not being used. From memory when I used to sail on an e-boat, there was a 'locking' handle that pushed the rudder blade forward in the cadge and locked it all securely into place - it was a leaver with a flat pad on the inside edge that made contact with rudder.
With regards to the pins...... sorry no clues there I'm afraid!
I think that there is some difference with the locking arrangements with the keels etc on the boats - mine has a couple of fibreglass 'blocks' that get placed at the fore and aft sections of the keel box that then has a ss bracket with a pin pushed all the way through. Then there is a bar that locks the 2 ss brackets in place and the bar is then through bolted to the keel to hold it all down securely.
If you have any pics this might help a few of us give some ideas as to shat they might be!
If you have any questions let me know and I'll try and help where I can...... but I'm a novice FT owner as well!
All the best on the maintenance front, my list is getting bigger as opposed to smaller at the moment!
Cheers
Rudders
