Hi All, 2012 is an interesting year for yachting events with many being rescheduled/moved due to the Olympics. Cowes Week is the most notable one (2012 - Saturday 11 August - Saturday 18 August) So, rather than run the MTC on the Sunday immediatley following Cowes Week (or the one after that, Dartmouth Regatta) we have opted for the 29 Sept. The 29th Sept is the weekend after the Southampton Boatshow and this year it was a glamorous one for weather! Also the ISC are running one of their ISCRS Autmun Series on the 30th Sunday, so anybody wanting to do a second day of racing (or even the whole series) can join in with that too. Though this is later in the season, this date avoids the IRC Solent Series weekends, which several of you have participated in (Prov. dates are): May 12th - Royal Southampton Clarkson Cup June 9th - Royal Southern June Regatta July 28th - Royal Solent Tattinger Regatta Sep 1st - Portsmouth Sailing Club Sep 22nd - Island SC Nab Tower race Sep 23rd - Royal Corinthian Tiny Mitchell Looks like the RYS are having their IRC day early Aug. Plus Poole Regatta is 2nd June - 4th June 2012 and that's a good event. So, as usual I'd welcome any feedback - but please GET THE DATE IN YOUR DIARY NOW! cheers..Matt

Just a quick question, where is the MTC 2012 and is there reasonable lift in / out rates & do I need an IRC cert? There will probably be loads more questions at a later date!
Looking to start getting organised early, if I don't get in the diary then the Mrs won't be happy!
Cherers!

1. Cowes 2. I looked around at all the places in reach, and came to the conclusion that there is nowhere within reach of the solent that I would call affordable! Could it be that if enough of us go to the same place we could negotiate a team discount? (The last half ton cup had crane in and out included in the entry fee). I have also seen somewhere up the Hamble I think, which has a one-ton mobile crane which can be used for launching, price if I remember was less than the standard per-foot price of all the others. I don't want to pay to use a 50 ton Travelift for my super lightweight Italian baby. Richard

I would be happy to do the same as I did for some of the french qt's last year. £50 each way and I will look the other way while masts are erected. Southsea isn't a world away from cowes and very handy for the ferry. Secure comound for trailers too. Best to all Rupert

Rupert, thanks for this generous offer which we may take up - the plan to sail over from France is not yet set in stone, and I find that I am having slightly hesitant moments whenever I think about this "great" idea.....
Richard in Germany/Secondanita in England (Hull underwater getting smoother with every touch, but now I may become limited by temperature-VC Tar needs 5 degrees minimum to cure-and how often I am in England to get on with it).

Deep depression in Germany - I have committed to support 2 sporting events in 2012, the MTC and the Berlin marathon, where my son will run. Just checked the date - it's the day after the MTC.... We will have to see how things pan out. Happy new year to all from Europe Richard

And now, to make my happiness complete, my brother has volunteered himself to sail the boat in MTC 2012. Former owner of Glass Onion and probably a much bettersailor than I am...humph.

How many minis are entered for Cowes week. Are there results for last years mini ton major regattas posted, please direct. Any thoughts / moves on racing with the quarter ton fleet from time to time. I am from downunder, thinking about dusting of an old design to bring to Europe / UK.

Hi Matt, in order to prevent me from having 10 months to think of excuses why we can't come and play in Secondanita in the MTC 2013, any advance ideas when it may take place? This mail is provoked by an email to my wife last week, asking if she can take a party round our beautiful mediaeval old town next year in August (that's what she does to get pocket-money to buy sailing shoes).
