We will be doing the races in the series, missing only next weekend, but startiong 30th Jan. As we haven't sailed together on the mini together, Solo will be out in the Solent for a few practise days in the next few weeks.
Any other Minis in the Solent fancy some practise round the cans sessions? It would be really good to judge how (badly) we are doing if it's not only us...

A friend and I are in the process of taking ownership of an Eboat over the next few weeks and hope to have her at the race of the 30th. As a member of the RSYC I am also in contact with the racing committee to try and encourage more mini tonners to race with us.

Did the Winter series at RSYC which was a well run series though can get ship traffic making life interesting and if there are Dinghy opens at Weston or Netley you can share marks with anything from a 40 foot plus J boat to a laser keeps your rules knowledge up to date.Glass Onion was out most days sailing consistently note that you sail under RSYC measurement though there are IRC results posted,we seemed to find every snag going and also felt slow with excess weed on hull. You will need their list of marks which is on their website. If weather oK Shamm could do some races so that would be 4 minis plus a J24 and hunter 707 if all turn up.

It looks like only one MT made it for the opening day, Glass Onion acheived 3rd in IRC 2, beating the Laser 28 'Blazer' and a UFO34 on the water which is a great effort.
We are hoping to have our new E-boat there for the 30th but its down to our managing to sail it from Eastney the day before and that itself depends on me getting her ready for the water this weekend (anyone fancy donning the overalls?).
I believe Solo will also be there on 30th?

Can any of you guys touch base with that Glass Onion as it would be great if they could come and play!

I'll see if i can get hold of them, not sure if they are RSYC members but hopefully someone in the bar will be able to point me in their direction.

Yeah, we'll try and get hold of them. Once some more mini-tonners turn up they're bound to realise something is afoot!

Well we got Roughian into onto the racetrack on Sunday. I believe that Ken had intended to take Solo. There was a silver hulled mini-tonner on the quay at Hamble on Saturday night but on the day there was only Glass Onion (in IRC2) and ourselves (in RSYC 2).
Glass Onion had a cracking day with a first and a third whilst Roughian recorded a creditable (we felt) 6th & 5th. Considering we were short handed and had only sailed the boat for the first time the previous day, we were pretty chuffed with the performance and the boat, sailing white sails only.
We'll be back out on Sunday 13th and it would be great if more mini-tonners could join us?

That sounds like a good sensible steady start George... Great fun racing aren't they? Even without the kite on there is plenty to do for three and when you do get the bag out you'll be worn out on a short course - but grinning from ear to ear! Matt

Will there be any more Mini-tonners out this Sunday? We're planning to be out there in class four again.

The wind got the better of things this Sunday with both races abandoned at 0845 on Sunday morning. I believe the crew of Solo were already onboard at that time but Roughian's crew had thought better of it and already decided it was going to be too windy for them.

The forecast is looking much better this week, probably perfect for Mini-tonners.
We'll be out for a potter tomorrow and practicing on Saturday ahead of racing on Sunday. Who is going to join us?

A fifth and a fourth in the Frostbite series today in races seven and eight.
The fleet has split very much in two with the larger and more modern boats fighting it out at the front with the older and smaller boats such as Roughian, Topaz (Contessa 26), Forethought (Westerly GK24) and our selves really in a seperate fleet of our own. To that end, beating those guys is a decent pair of results but we still feel that the chocolate box ought not be out of reach.
What we really need is for more mini-tonners to come and join us! It's perfect racing, there are boats at our pace, the racing is organised and Southampton Water is sheltered enough from the stronger winds and usually provides the flat water that mini-tonners really need. Two more races on the second Saturday in March, see you there?
